Director's Message

As the Centre’s Director, it is my great privilege to thank you for your interest, and share with you some of the exciting initiatives in cardiovascular research and education that we’re involved in at the University of Toronto.

The HSRLCE is a multi-disciplinary, cross-departmental, multi-sited unit of the University of Toronto that seeks to coordinate and accelerate cardiovascular research and training throughout our city and beyond. The Centre’s dedicated membership of 94 academic faculty, along with hundreds more of their trainees, span all four pillars of biomedical, clinical, health systems and population health research. Together, we are focused on developing cutting-edge research and innovative training programs, with a view to improving the cardiovascular health of all Canadians.

As Director of the HSRLCE, I am honoured to hold an unparalleled view of this exceptionally dynamic collection of minds and to observe them tackling some of the most challenging questions in cardiovascular science. To name just a few of our achievements, HSRLCE investigators have cracked troublesome genetic mysteries in heart development, discovered new diagnostic tests for heart failure, engineered replacement parts for damaged hearts, and have conceived and coordinated clinical trials testing new treatments.

We strive to connect campus-based scientists to hospital-based doctors and mentor talented young trainees into seasoned practitioners, to create a Centre that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Welcome to our website. Please peruse at your leisure. We welcome researchers to our membership.
