Each Science Day, a lecture is given by the Dr. Subhash C. Verma Young
Investigator awardee. This award was established by the Heart & Stroke /
Richard Lewar Centre of Excellence in Cardiovascular Research in the University
of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine in 2006. The prize recognizes exceptional
achievement in the cardiovascular sciences. Dr. Subhash C. Verma was a renowned
pharmacologist who played a key role in identifying and characterizing H2
receptors, which led to the development of H2 receptor blockers for the
treatment of peptic ulcer disease. This award recognizes his memory.
