Cardiovascular Tissue Banking

Plans are in process for a Lewar Centre-supported Cardiovascular Tissue Bank (CTB). Our goal is to harness and expand on biobanking infrastructures, protocols, and procedures already inplace at one or more University of Toronto-affiliated teaching hospitals with the hope of facilitating our members access to both normal and diseased human cardiovascular tissues through approved project-specific research protocols.

 

We plan on creating cardiovascular disease management teams that will oversee these protocols and work to review and assist members' requests for tissue samples. A research coordinator will be dedicated to the CTB, to coordinate and facilitate all operations including review of requests, preparation and submission of specific applications to the REB, and oversee collections and retrieval of specimens for member access. The CTB will be governed and will operate under principals and ethics protocols already in place
